Interview with AIRPOWER
AIRPOWER: We joined GEMM spring 2000
GEMMZINE: With 115,842 items as of this writing (October 2009), even with computers, do you need a large staff to keep track of everything? AIRPOWER: Keeping track is always a huge challange especially since we also do record shows throughout southwest Ontario. Each Sunday we sell a few hundred LP's and then have to update the inventory each Monday to ensure availability. We manage with 2 full time and 1 part time staff.
GEMMZINE: What do you like best about selling your music through GEMM? AIRPOWER: The best thing about selling through GEMM is the ease to upload inventories, process sales and receive payment.
GEMMZINE: Do you get actively involved with artists you are selling? A spinoff label or working with other independent labels? or is AIRPOWER focused on the retail aspect of the business? AIRPOWER: We are strictly focused on retail.
GEMMZINE What was the first record and/or book you, personally, ever purchased? AIRPOWER: The 1st 45rpm I purchased was The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There. The 1st LP was The Animals - Animalism
GEMMZINE: Do you have a Top 100 list of items?
AIRPOWER: We don't have a top 100 list. The 45 inventory, over 80,000 items listed, is all over the board
GEMMZINE: Do you find items that you find enjoyable - or to better phrase it - in working with so much media, do you still find time to have a hobby aspect for yourself with the materials you also sell? AIRPOWER: Yes. We are also huge music lovers and constantly discover or, re-discover great music from artists past and present. Some things never make it to the sales listings.
GEMMZINE: Anything else you'd like to say to Gemm buyers and sellers?
AIRPOWER: Buyers should be understanding if occasionally an item turns out to be unavailable. When you are storing over 100,000 items plus adding constantly, sometimes a 45 may get mis-filed and becomes impossible to find. It's impossible to play grade everything so both buyers and sellers have to act in good faith if a record happens to be defective. Above all, show respect for everyone and be patient.
